Wool embroidery course with Barbro Tronhus Storlien

Embroidery is both fun and relaxing, and a hobby you can enjoy anywhere. It is also an important cultural heritage and an expression of a love for color and creativity. Many dream of embroidering their own bunad, or embroidering for a family member. In this course, you will get a taste of what you need to know and experience the satisfaction of creating even stitches and beautiful flowers on a piece of fabric. The course covers some of the fine stitches found on many of our bunads, such as satin stitch, shading, French knots, and basic stitches.

The instructor will bring a material kit with pre-drawn fabric, needle, and thread. The kit costs NOK 250 and is in addition to the course fee, payable to the instructor. Course participants should bring scissors and an embroidery hoop with a diameter of approx. 15 cm.

The course lasts 10 hours over 3 sessions.

About the instructor

Barbro Tronhus Storlien is a "Vagvær" native, bunad maker, and embroidery enthusiast. In 2019, she published the book "Barbro broderer" (Barbro Embroideries) and in 2023 "Barbros sysaker" (Barbro's Sewing Things), about women, clothes, and cultural history. She teaches many courses in bunad sewing and various forms of embroidery. Barbro was the chair of Norges Husflidslag (Norwegian Folk Art and Craft Association) from 2018-2024, serves on the board of the craft school at Hjerleid, and is particularly passionate about vocational training and the joy of good craftsmanship. She is now looking forward to spreading the joy of embroidery during the Ullinsvin Wool Festival and encouraging even more people to take up their embroidery needles.
